This one was carried across an ocean — an infant adopted out of Korea into a white American home, raised among Black, Mexican and white friends, and left to work out where he belonged in a country that keeps a name ready for everyone. What surfaces is a memoir about race, stereotype, language and the long argument between how you see yourself and how the world files you away.
